A painter does not have to paint what he sees, but what should be seen. (Paul Valéry)
My subjects – just like my drawings – are classical: portraits, nudes, animals, and still lifes. Color, light, and chiaroscuro define my style and make my works unmistakable. Even though I work in different painting styles, the glazing technique of the Old Masters always remains my foundation.
I find my models in my own house and garden, or in the neighborhood. Occasionally, also at the zoo.
Here, too, one's own garden is often a source of inspiration.
I like portraits that tell a story. This can be achieved through facial expressions but also through the context of an image.
